The wire rope should not be placed flatwise in the stock. It should be underlaid by stones, woodblocks or other stuff with a cover on it. Normally, the wire rope should be kept in aeration-drying place and avoid heat source, acid and alkali etc., which can easily damage wire rope’s property. The timely check should be conducted when keeping the wire rope; clean the sands, dirt adhering to the wire rope and grease the wire rope if need.

The reasons for discarding wire ropes are numerous, including but not limited to the followings:
1 The broken wires number reaches the discard standard
2 The abrasion and corrosion level reaches the discard standard.
3 Deformation surpasses standard.
4 Flexibility reduces or wire rope core damages.
5 Overheat damaged wire rope.
The damage of the wire rope demonstrates in different forms, sometimes, which is caused by several staggered problems. Some damage can be confirmed by quantitative analysis, others should be confirmed by the judgment on flaws and its level. When necessary, it should be checked by test gauge. To decide whether a wire rope should be discarded or not, it is important to consider all kinds of elements. And the wire rope should be changed immediately once it reaches the discard standard. Meanwhile, be aware of the equipment problems which cause the wire rope deterioration.
